Sharon Taylor inspects Stevenage Roads
Sharon Taylor, the Labour and Co-Operative Party parliamentary candidate, is calling on Hertfordshire Highways to make our roads safe again following the big freeze.
Highways across Stevenage are now in a shameless condition after being exposed to a condition known as freeze-thaw which causes damage to our roads in wet and freezing conditions. Potholes develop as water in road cracks turns to ice, which causes the surface to break up and form deeper potholes than normal.
Sharon Taylor said,
“At the end of the day Hertfordshire Highways can’t control the weather and the effect that it can have on our roads, but is clear that many of them are in urgent need of attention.
“As a County Councillor I’d urge everyone to work with Herts Highways so that repairs are carried out as soon as possible.
“I was pleased to see that Popple Way, a side road in my County Council division, had some of its more dangerous holes repaired in the first week of January. However, I was disappointed to find that the repairs have lasted less than two weeks. The holes are now back and the repairs are sitting on the grass verge. As a County Councillor I’m finding it hard to explain to my constituents that they are getting value for money.”
