Sharon Taylor, the Labour and Co-Operative Party parliamentary candidate for Stevenage, has welcomed the news that Hertfordshire County Council have approved plans to rebuild the Thomas Alleynes School on a site in Great Ashby.
The new school is part of Labour’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme – investing in our young people; helping them achieve their potential by providing quality learning environments.
Tory and Lib Dem County Councillors have wasted months of local people’s time and money, demanding that other sites be considered. Labour launched a campaign to prevent them building the school on the much-loved St Nicholas Park in Stevenage, supported by hundreds of local residents. The County’s Development Control Committee finally made a decision today (2nd March) to approve the Great Ashby site.
Sharon Taylor said,
“I am delighted that common sense has prevailed at last. After a strong campaign by local residents against siting the school on the much-loved St. Nicholas Park, the County Council has approved Great Ashby site for the new Thomas Alleynes School. The Tories and Lib Dems at County Hall have wasted a great deal of time and local people’s money flip-flopping over this decision. The voices of local people have been heard and the County Council has finally made the right decision. Let’s start building!”
