Sharon Taylor, Labour’s parliamentary candidate, has welcomed the news that the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has issued his final decision and granted outline planning permission for development on land west of the A1 (M) at Stevenage.

The project, led by the West of Stevenage Consortium, will provide 3,600 dwellings and business premises, shops, leisure, social and community facilities, open space and landscaping as well as provision of infrastructure, highways and public transport facilities. Sharon Taylor, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Stevenage was delighted to welcome Andy Burnham, Secretary of State for Health to see the exciting developments taking place at the Lister Hospital this morning.  The Minister heard about the campaign to ensure that Lister became the acute trauma centre for North and East Hertfordshire and was taken on a tour of our hospital to see the new Surgi-centre and Maternity Unit which are currently under construction. Sharon Taylor has been overwhelmingly selected, by Stevenage Labour Party Members, to be Labours Candidate at the next general election. Sharon, who lives in Fairview Road, grew up in Stevenage attending Roebuck, Camps Hill and Girls Grammar Schools. Today I visited the Stevenage Land Registry with Richard Howitt, our Labour MEP, to listen to the concerns of staff and the PCS Union regarding management proposals to close the Stevenage office.  This proposed closure would result in the loss of 279 Stevenage jobs, among staff who have worked hard to ensure that their productivity is exceptionally high.
