set out its fundamental principles:
- that it meet the needs of everyone
- that it be free at the point of delivery
- that it be based on clinical need, not ability to pay
These are principles which are very close to the hearts of the British people. The Labour Government made huge improvements to health services, including investing £millions in the Lister hospital. Waiting lists were slashed from 18 months to 18 weeks.
After 18 months of a Tory-led government, the NHS is back in intensive care. The top-down changes they’re making are not about improving healthcare for ordinary people, they are about privatisation—putting profit before patients.
Most doctors and nurses are against these changes. Patients are against them. The Tories and Lib Dems, including our local MP, are hell bent on tearing the NHS apart.
The Labour Party must fight to protect these precious principles, on behalf of the people.
